This is a most painful realization for an incest offender—he sees himself as basically a good and loving person, yet he has committed a most despicable crime. His integrity has been shattered, and he may consider suicide. Coming to understand his offense is like putting together a thousand-piece jigsaw puzzle—without having a picture to look at! The treatment of incest offenders and other perpetrators of child sexual abuse is a practical matter. If we are to be effective in lessening the occurrence of these devastating crimes against children, we must be willing to help the perpetrators to heal, in addition to healing the victims and their families.
